Western Approaches Headquarters, an original Second World War bunker from which the Battle of the Atlantic was planned and coordinated, has a small but growing archive. The archive contains papers, letters, books, photographs, and artefacts relating to the building itself, as well the staff who worked here during the war, and the men who were involved in the Battle of the Atlantic.
We hold original maps and blueprints from the construction of the bunker, as well as diaries, scrapbooks and memoirs from the bunker staff, and men serving on the Atlantic. Along with these, we also have a number of personal photo albums belonging to these people that document their lives either in the bunker or at sea and living in the wider Liverpool area.
We are also opening a separate museum dedicated to the Womens Royal Naval Service (WRNS) on the same site in the near future, and so have a small collection of WRNS related items.
