LJMU Special Collections & Archives hold archive collections relating to popular and counter culture, Liverpool Theatre, the history of the University and its preceding colleges (including the Liverpool Art School), and special collections of published material relating to fashion in the nineteenth century, art books and the periodical press.  The archives are open for all to access, although at least 24 hours’ notice is required for access to archive material. Some highlights of the collections include:

— Wide ranging and inspiring visual material covering 19th century fashion, contemporary arts festivals, photography and 20th century magazines for women and girls.

— A number of collections relating to theatre and writing, including the archive of the Everyman Theatre and the extensive personal archive of celebrated Liverpool playwright Willy Russell.

— Collections relating to popular music and counter culture, including England’s Dreaming: The Jon Savage Archive and collections related to IT, X-Ray Spex, Eric’s, Paul McCartney and the Situationist International.

These unique and distinctive primary sources can be used by students to inspire their academic work, by researchers making new discoveries, and by all interested members of the public who would like to learn more.
