Sefton Library Service holds an archive of approx. 10,000 ledgers, minutes, log books and journals. The collection holds 40,000 historic photographs, 2000 maps and around 8000 published works. The collection covers the townships found in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton including Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull, Aintree and Southport. The minutes of predecessor local authorities are held in the main archive located at Crosby Library. Some archives of schools and private businesses are also held.

An extensive collection of family history records is available including local directories, electoral rolls, rate books, and newspapers.

Access to the material is by appointment.

If required, staff can carry out a 15 minute or 2 hour search for a fee.
